We have just completed
a unique study of the penetration of ICT into several economic
sectors in South Africa. This is intended to inform government
as to how they might accelerate the diffusion of ICT into
those sectors and hence improve their productivity, profitability
and global competitiveness.
The first phase comprised
a scan of the international application and diffusion of ICT
(Final
Report) into: agriculture, mining, automotive manufacturing,
clothing manufacturing, health care, tourism, multimedia and
biotechnology.
The second phase comprised fieldwork and data gathering in the
same sectors of the South African economy. For this purpose
we designed and pilot tested a structured
survey document.
The final reports of phase two have been completed and can be
viewed as follows:
